I joined ERM as an intern last year upon completing my master’s degree in geohydrology. Within 6 months, I was promoted to an entry level consultant and 6 months later, I was promoted to Junior Consultant.

As a recently graduated marine ecologist living in Hong Kong, I could pursue many different career paths; academia, nongovernmental organizations, consultancies or government. I started by working in government in a stable, but not very challenging job.

I joined ERM after graduating from college, having interviewed with several different consultancies. I was attracted to ERM because of the variety of project work available. 

Before joining ERM in 2011, I worked for three years at another consultancy on social issues. However, my background was in environmental management and environmental science.

ERM hired me as a Junior Consultant immediately after university in 2014. While at school, I enjoyed an internship conducting audits for a major auto manufacturer. I knew I wanted a job where I would travel and not sit in an office five days a week.

After a 25-year career with a global agrochemical company I relocated to London and began considering a career change. Talking to a number of consultancies, ERM really stood out.

I began my career at ERM in 2006 as Managing Partner of our Indonesia operations. After working for the competition in Indonesia and the United States, I was drawn to ERM because it is a smaller, nimbler and more client-focused organization.

I joined ERM in March 2017 as a recent graduate from Penn State University, with a bachelors in meteorology. My major focused on weather risk management, so I studied how weather and climate have an impact on business decisions and strategy. 

Two years ago, I left my project manager position at another consultancy to join ERM. My company had become staid, bureaucratic and stuck in its ways. Despite having a large presence in Canada, there was not much room for professional growth. I needed a change.

My background is different from most of my ERM colleagues. I studied chemistry at university, then worked as a financial auditor and later as an in-house accountant.

Working at ERM is very different from my previous job. I used to be an environmental compliance coordinator at a steel company, which was a 24-hour operation. I made the switch to ERM because of the variety of projects and the ability to be done at the end of the day.
