Justin Payne

Partner, Capital Project Delivery, Low Carbon Economy Transition

Justin leads and manages the delivery of low carbon economy transition projects across Australia and Asia Pacific, including renewable hydrogen production and potential applications. With over 20 years of experience, Justin has an extensive track record across operational, safety and risk management in the production, distribution and use of cryogenic and high-pressure gases. He has held general management, finance and project management roles in Australia, New Zealand and Japan, across the heavy industrial, minerals processing and industrial gas industries. Prior to joining ERM, he held various leadership roles in Air Liquide, including as Industrial Director in Japan, Country Managing Director in New Zealand, and earlier as the Finance Manager in Western Australia. Justin is able to lend insights and share best practices from both practitioner and advisor perspectives, to help organisations on their journey towards a low carbon economy.

Jia Yong Leong

Senior Analyst, National Energy Transformation Office @Energy Market Authority (EMA)

Jia Yong is a member of the National Energy Transformation Office (NETO) which was set up under EMA to plan and coordinate efforts across the whole-of-government to transform how energy is produced, transported, and used. He works with public sector agencies and private sector companies on the introduction and adoption of hydrogen and its derivatives, especially for the power sector, including developing plans and policies, and R&D. Prior to joining EMA, he has spent time in the private sector, and holds an MSc in Environmental Management from NUS.

Tohru Hayashi

Team Leader, Low Carbon Projects Team, Infrastructure Department @Mitsubishi Corp

Tohru leads and drives large-scale infrastructure projects in various sectors across the globe. With over 15 years of diverse experience, he has deep expertise in managing complex infrastructure projects that require vision, resilience and partnership. He is currently in charge and focusing on developing the hydrogen supply chain projects in Singapore, Europe and Japan markets, utilising the SPERA Hydrogen (LOHC) technology developed by Chiyoda Corporation. Prior to joining Mitsubishi Corporation, he worked for IFC to provide financial solutions for the infrastructure projects in the developing countries across the Asia Pacific region.

Louis Day

Senior Consultant, Hydrogen Projects

Louis is a senior consultant specialising in supporting the develop of hydrogen projects in Europe at Element Energy (an ERM group company). Louis is currently supporting the next generation of electrolyser projects in the EU that target the development of 100s of MW electrolysers, providing an understanding of their support mechanisms, development progress and barriers to their realisation. Louis also leads Element’s work in the assessing the options for importing and exporting hydrogen and has carried out techno-economic assessments rooted in work with technology suppliers for each option.
