Fireside Chat // Water Resilience: Strengthening Agri-Food Systems Against Water Threats
ERM’s Daniele Strippoli, Regional Service Leader Nature & Water Advisory, will speak on Water Resilience: Strengthening Agri-Food Systems Against Water Threats.
As crop failures intensify across Europe due to extreme weather events, food companies are under growing pressure to assess and mitigate water-related risks - both scarcity and pollution - across their sourcing regions. Early-warning tools and strategic partnerships are proving essential to prevent supply chain disruptions. At the same time, investors, banks, and insurers are increasingly pricing water risk into agri-food portfolios, with new tools emerging to quantify exposure and incentivize better water outcomes. To optimize water use in rain-fed farming, integrating biologicals, digital technologies, and agronomic services is key to reducing waste, improving soil health, and protecting local ecosystems. Unlocking private capital and aligning water stewardship with food production and regional sustainability goals will require robust regulation and multi-stakeholder collaboration among farmers, corporates, tech providers, and local authorities.
