When I heard there was an opening at ERM, I knew it would provide me with exposure to different types of projects and better utilize my training in marine ecology. I decided to make the switch after eight months in my government job and joined ERM as an assistant consultant in the marine sciences team. That was 13 years ago.

My early duties at ERM mainly involved marine field studies. I participated in fish surveys and water and sediment sampling, but primarily I conducted baseline studies for coral reef habitat. It is wonderful to experience the underwater coral environment. I am a trained scuba diver and have accumulated more than a thousand dives through my project work.

ERM has promoted me several times over the years, giving me increasing responsibilities for technical delivery of projects, project and proposal management, and interactions with clients. As a Principal Consultant, my current focus is business development in Hong Kong and Myanmar, and I spend half my time in each place. I just started in ERM’s Path to Partnership program, which helps identify, develop and nurture the Partners of tomorrow.

I enjoy working here because of the exposure to diverse project types and international experiences. I have worked on projects in Brunei, China, Djibouti, Guinea, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam. ERM encourages people to step out of their comfort zone to take on new challenges and develop ourselves. It never gets boring at work.

I really appreciate our health and safety culture. When people from other consultancies come to work at ERM, they say none of our competitors have the same level of emphasis on health and safety. You can tell ERM really cares about our people. We also focus on building an inclusive culture, which is the right thing to do. My values align with our company’s, and that makes me happy to be here.
